Jean-Sébastien Roy Appointed Deputy Scientific Director of Cirris

Cirris is pleased to announce the appointment of Jean-Sébastien Roy as Deputy Scientific Director, a position he officially assumed on April 15, 2026.

A researcher at Cirris since 2002, Jean-Sébastien Roy has distinguished himself through his sustained commitment and significant contributions to the organization’s development. Over the years, he has held several leadership roles, including serving as a member of the Research Council, Director of the Functions Research Area, and Chair of the Laboratories Committee. These experiences have enabled him to gain in-depth knowledge of the operations of Cirris as well as the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale.

His leadership also extends to the national and international levels. He serves as an associate editor for the journals Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy and Musculoskeletal Science & Practice. He is also one of the ten principal investigators of the Canadian MSK Rehab Research Network and co-leads the Quebec Consortium on Low Back Pain. In addition, he served on the scientific advisory board of the Provincial Research Network on Adaptation and Rehabilitation, where he also led a strategic working group.

Deeply involved in research evaluation, Jean-Sébastien Roy has served on numerous peer review committees for major Quebec and Canadian funding agencies, including the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Canada Research Chairs Program, and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Health (FRQ-S).

Recognized for his commitment to training the next generation of researchers, he received the 2022 Jacques-Leblanc Award from the Association of Student Researchers at the Faculty of Medicine at Laval University, highlighting the excellence of his mentorship of students.

With his expertise in pain and musculoskeletal health, as well as his extensive experience in research and scientific governance, Jean-Sébastien Roy will make a significant contribution to the Cirris leadership team and to the pursuit of its mission.
