Appointment of François Routhier as Scientific Director of CIRRIS

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of François Routhier as Scientific Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Center in Rehabilitation and Social Integration (Cirris) at the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale.

A full professor at the School of Rehabilitation Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine at Laval University, Mr. Routhier’s work focuses on the development and evaluation of technical aids and related interventions, residential and urban accommodations, and the organization of public services. His research focuses in particular on their impact on mobility, activity levels, independence, and social participation among people with disabilities or loss of independence, as well as their caregivers.

An experienced researcher, particularly recognized for his expertise in collaborative research, he also has a solid track record in training the next generation, as evidenced by Laval University’s 2024 Graduate Supervision Award. He served as scientific director of the Provincial Research Network on Adaptation and Rehabilitation (REPAR) from 2022 to 2024, head of the Social Participation and Inclusive Cities (PSVI) partnership research team from 2021 to 2025, and head of the cross-sectoral Inclusive Society initiative since 2021.

For over 25 years, he has worked closely with clinical teams in the health and social services network. His unifying approach helps to consolidate lasting partnerships with clinical, government, community, and private sector organizations. Recognized for his collegial leadership, he draws on collective intelligence, intersectoral collaboration, and in-depth knowledge of CIRRIS and its ecosystem to support an ambitious, inclusive, and inspiring scientific vision. His rigor and openness make him a valued and sought-after collaborator.

He has been involved with CIRRIS since its creation in 2000, first as a student and then as a research assistant, and has been working there as a researcher since 2008. He served as research area manager from 2012 to 2019 and, over the past year, as deputy scientific director.

We are confident that Mr. Routhier will carry out his new duties with rigor and commitment and that he will play a key role in promoting and advancing the academic mission of the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale. We wish him every success!
