Her research focuses on the social uses of literacy, including the accessibility to information in different contexts (health, public services, municipalities or financial institutions). Her work explores the way that different areas and services can better serve populations at risk of exclusion, by aiming at inclusion and citizen participation. Professor Ruel is also interested in transition periods, particularly in the school system for high-risk students or with special needs.
