Conference|Inequality, Disability, and Health

Presented in bimodal format on Thursday, February 4, 2026, from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.,
in room H-1500 at Cirris Hamel and via Zoom

Sophie Mitra, Ph.D., will present her research on inequality and precariousness, as well as on the evaluation of public policies aimed at reducing them, particularly in relation to disability, aging, and health. At the heart of her work is the production of evidence to better document disability-related inequalities through disaggregated statistics and the analysis of the factors that fuel them, such as discrimination or the additional costs borne by families (medical expenses, transportation, etc.). She conducts this work as part of the Disability Data Initiative. Her research is based primarily on empirical analyses using data from low-income countries.

Sophie Mitra is a professor of economics, founding director of the Disability Research Consortium at Fordham University in New York, and principal investigator of the Disability Data Initiative.
