Cirris’ Emeritus Researchers occupy a special place in the history and evolution of our center. Through their major scientific contributions, vision, and leadership, they have shaped the direction of rehabilitation research and inspired generations of researchers, clinicians, and students. Their careers reflect a deep commitment to advancing knowledge and improving the social participation of people with disabilities. We are proud to highlight their exceptional contributions and recognize the lasting impact they have had on our community.

Patrick Fougeyrollas|Emeritus Researcher 2025

Patrick Fougeyrollas, Ph.D., is an anthropologist specializing in the field of disability. He coordinated the development of the policy “À part entière: pour un véritable exercice du droit à l’égalité” (Full Participation: For the True Exercise of the Right to Equality) at the Office des personnes handicapées du Québec (OPHQ). He was Director of Scientific Development at the François-Charron Center, where he played a key role in the creation of CIRRIS. He is also a founding member of the International Network on the Process of Disability Production (RIPPH). Mr. Fougeyrollas has played an active role in promoting the social and environmental dimensions of disability, recognized by the American Public Health Association, and on various national and international expert committees related to rehabilitation, the integration of people with various disabilities, and the revision of the International Classification of Functioning (ICF), Disability and Health.

Carol L. Richards|Emeritus Researcher 2024


Carol L. Richards, OC, CQ, PhD, Pht, FACSS, is a professor emeritus at Laval University. Her research has helped redefine clinical care and social integration for people who have suffered a stroke. She served as founding director of CIRRIS, the Provincial Research Network in Adaptation and Rehabilitation (REPAR), and the Department of Physical Therapy at Laval University. She held a Canada Research Chair in Rehabilitation and the Research Chair in Cerebral Palsy at Laval University. Ms. Richards was named an Officer of the Order of Canada and a Knight of the National Order of Quebec, in addition to receiving honorary doctorates from three Canadian universities.
